Today (March 4), the State Courts granted Edmund Chen an extension of bail and approval to travel overseas twice in the coming months.
According to Lianhe Zaobao, Chen's lawyer requested permission for the 65-year-old former local actor to visit China for business from March 17 to 26.
Additionally, he sought approval to travel to Japan from April 15 to May 3 for personal reasons, without disclosing the exact purpose of the trip.
Chen was permitted to depart Singapore for both trips on an additional $10,000 bail, provided that his guarantor does not accompany him abroad.
While overseas, he is required to stay in contact with investigators and must surrender his passport within 24 hours of returning to Singapore.
Speculations suggest that he may be attending his son Chen Xi's wedding in Japan.
Chen Xi, 34, announced his engagement to his fiancée, nicknamed Mimi, in an Instagram post in July 2025 after proposing to her in May 2024.
On March 4, 2025, Edmund was driving on the Ayer Rajah Expressway towards the Central Expressway when he suddenly slowed down and changed lanes, causing a 21-year-old motorcyclist to collide with his vehicle and sustain multiple wrist fractures.
He pleaded guilty to driving without due consideration for others on January 29 and was sentenced to five days in jail with a five-year driving disqualification.
After filing an appeal on February 6, his request to postpone his sentence was granted, and his bail was increased to $15,000.
